Dundun Drum - Large

The dundun is a closed double-headed cylindrical wooden drum with a laced goat or cow hide membrane that can be played either on it's side or standing on one end. It was adopted by many of the countries in West Africa from the Mande people in Mali where it was used as a royal drum.

Dundun drums are traditionally played alongside the Djembe and provide a deep bass to accompany the rhythms.

Contrary to the expectation of maintaining a steady and uniform beat, the dundun drums, in fact, generate intricately syncopated patterns that add remarkable depth and complexity to any music.
